ELPOZO ALIMENTACIÓN is a company committed to the future. That is why it is developing a business policy in which respecting its surroundings is a priority through responsible practices and sustainable solutions which are present in all its processes.
Environmental sustainability is a transverse axis which guides the way the company thinks and acts. The development of environmental plans and actions is incorporated in its business strategy, guaranteeing compliance with legislation and ensuring that the environmental effects resulting from its activity are controlled.
This respect for the surroundings is not only a mechanism to manage more efficiently, but is also part of ELPOZO ALIMENTACIÓN’s Corporate Social Responsibility. Respect for the environment is an intrinsic value for the company, and for that reason there are many initiatives developed to meet this objective.
For many years now the company has been carrying out actions along these lines, enabling it to reach figures which are the result of this commitment.
CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Following the circular economy principal, ELPOZO ALIMENTACIÓN is taking part in different recovery projects of material which serves as raw material in other sectors. In so doing, it has become the first business in the meat sector to get ECOSENSE certification, an initiative which guarantees recovery, recycling and incorporation in plastic material processing. In that contribution to caring for the environment, the company has demonstrated great interest in recycling, managing to get its packaging to contain a high percentage of recycled material.
In addition, in collaboration with Ecoembes and the Alhama de Murcia town council, it has started a household packaging recovery project from the social area of the organisation and, what is more, the voluntary symbol of Ecoembes is now included on its labels to make it easier and promote package recycling.
WATER
In order to use resources as efficiently as possible, ELPOZO ALIMENTACIÓN has taken 100 per cent advantage of its treated water to irrigate 400 hectares of crops. It has also introduced measures to minimise the use this resource, allowing it to save 10 per cent of water used in its facilities.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
In the field of energy efficiency, and in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to the decarbonisation of the planet, ELPOZO ALIMENTACIÓN has calculated and certified its Carbon Footprint and has planned actions to reduce it.
In addition, the biogas generated in its treatment plant will be used as alternative fuel for steam production. Furthermore, the organization has obtained the CO2 savings certificate from Ecoembes thanks to the recycling of its packaging. Another green action has been the saving of energy produced by replacing more than 3000 conventional luminaires for LED ones.
